  • The U.S. has experienced over 2,000 school shootings since 1970, with numbers dramatically rising since the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting in 2012. On average there are almost 40 school shooting incidents every year, or three per month. This epidemic of school shootings is uniquely American, and it’s unacceptable. Sign here.

  • We are the lockdown generation. As current high school and college students, we have grown up during the mass shooting epidemic in America. With no assault weapons ban in place, we have grown up with constant drills and threats of an active shooter and we face a threat to our lives on a daily basis just by going to school. How can our safety and protection continue to be ignored? Sign here.

  • Firearm-related injury has surpassed accidents as the leading cause of death of children in the United States. The Federal Assault Weapon Ban, from 1994 to 2004, reduced fatalities due to mass shootings by 70%. As physicians and members of the medical community, it is our duty to combat preventable illness and develop a treatment plan for meaningful change. The time is now to reinstate the federal ban. • Police officers risk their lives every day, but today the job is increasingly fraught with much more risk than ever before, as all-too-often they are outgunned by those on the wrong side of the law. It is an especially egregious situation when responding to "active shooter" scenes. Sign here.

  • Veterans comprise only 7% of the U.S. population, but they are uniquely experienced to communicate that assault weapons are weapons of war and should remain in the hands of the military, not civilians. 2022 research shows a preponderance of veterans, including those who have served in combat and non-combat roles, are more likely to support an assault weapons ban. • As members of the 65 and up community, we are calling on the U.S. Senate to pass S.25 and the House of Representatives to pass H.R. 698, to federally ban assault weapons in order to stop the never-ending list of fatal mass shootings in America. Sign here.
